8/1/13 CAMELS @ OC FAIR & CAMEL-MILKING EXHIBITION + Biblical inspiration

This guy & his wife has a camel farm near san diego (oasis camel farm, see http://www.cameldairy.com/ )...says that camels are different than cows in terms of milking..they will only give milk to their OWN babies..and only if the environment is right...and tthen for only about 90 seconds at a time.
.so milking them for commercial purposes is a little more tricky..and they are one of the few in the united states to actually do so..they make some lip balm and a few other products from the camel milk, but not yet milk for drinking (although it sounds like that's something planned for the future if they can work it out).
These were "one-hump" camels (ie dromedary)) as opposed to two-hump (bactrian)...and you need a saddle to ride them (saddles shown at end of this video) . One of the camels still had some of it's "winter fur" on its back which he says he left on to show how easy it is to pull off..and pulled out a small swatch.
so he did manage to get some milk from one of the camels and actually drank some of it from a jar straight from the camel ! wow ! says he loves it.
